The DTRT strategy centers on the largest purchaser of products and services on the planet. That is

- Local

- State

- Federal

contracts, combined the annual purchasing of everything from paper to spaceships across all agencies and departments is over $1 TRILLION. Our government does something super smart to help manage the overall budget, it has large parts of that purchasing to target businesses (for profit and nonprofit) that employ or have major impacts on low income and at-risk people and communities (what we call DTRT - Do the Right Thing).

Companies that employ this population and pay them achieve the following.

- 1 out of every two dollars reduce their SSDI or direct public benefits

- 1 out of every three dollars reduce housing subsidy

Businesses employing what we call the population (every type of low income and at-risk population) to get these contracts must be competitive with existing contracts. In short, it can reduce government expenses for products and services as it reduces costs associated with providing services to the population. That is why it is SMART government to support Doing the Right Thing.
